The Quintessential (or Archie, as his friends call him) is usually too cynical to blog, but when he blogs, he blogs with passion which it induces flares, flames and anger in some and garners sticks and stones from others. In his freetime, he strolls along the road picking up coins, vents his archconservative, neoimperialistic views, and confesses his love for fertility statues, obsure languages and everything Scandinavian.
I am writing to ask about the Dunkirk photo at http://thequintessential.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/evacuation_dunkirk.jpg
I would like to use this photograph in a university textbook entitled British Society and Culture, of which I am the sole author, to be used at the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia) for students of English and translation.
The text book will initially be printed in a run of 500, with a maximum over 5 years of 2000.
Would you give me permission to use this picture in print?
Thank you and best regards

PS Aplogies if I’ve already sent this mail – I’ve lost track!
i cannot give you permission because i don’t actually own the photograph nor did i take it. i used it according to online free use policy. i hope you have better luck with your other avenues of research. you should probably try corbis archives or something like that for better dunkirk pictures.
